Years of education and training have prepared North Carolina medical professionals in delivering excellent patient care. These highly trained physicians lead medical teams to provide the highest level of care for patients.

Education and training matter in health care.

For this reason, a statewide coalition of medical associations and specialty groups have joined forces to advocate for physician-led patient care teams that keep patients safe, reduce risk, and increase quality care and work to control healthcare spending.

The survey was conducted among 1,000 US voters, between January 27th-February 1st, 2021. The margin of error is +3.5% at the 95% confidence interval.

The Issue

There is an effort to eliminate physician involvement from patient care. Removing physicians would negatively impact patient safety, lead to higher costs and will not increase access to care.

How do North Carolinians view the issue of physician supervision?

This poll of 500 registered North Carolina voters was conducted April 22-24, 2017. The accuracy of the sample is withing +4.4% at a 95% confidence interval.

Significant majorities (90%) of NC voters want a doctor to respond to a medical complication or anesthesia emergency during surgery.
Nine-in-ten believe it is important that a doctor supervise a nurse anesthetist who is administering anesthesia or responding to anesthesia emergencies during a procedure.
Three-quarters (76%) want the state to keep the current law requiring doctor supervision of nurse anesthetists who administer anesthesia or respond to medical emergencies during surgery.
Physician supervision has solid bipartisan support across the state in rural and urban areas.
